Umeå university in Kiruna
In the autumn of 2007 Umeå University will started several educational programmes in Kiruna covering topics such as climate change, nature tourism, and sustainable development. It is expected that during 2010 more than 300 students from both Sweden and other parts of the world will be studying in Kiruna.
In Kiruna there are unique possibilities for education and research in an Arctic environment. Fantastic mountains, natural forests, undisturbed wilderness and rivers protected from development contribute to a unique study environment.
In addition the area is full of natural resources that are important for the mining industry, reindeer herding, forestry and tourism. Together, these provide an invaluable resource for research and education.
